Let Karaoke Season in Albuquerque Begin!
WOW! It seems like just yesterday we crowned the 2016 NM State Fair Karaoke Champion and now it’s time to begin the search for the 2018 Champion! Due to overwhelming popular demand, the NMSF and the Karaoke Community has requested we bring back the Karaoke Season!
We are making a few changes in the way we qualify for singers to go to the State Fair, and how we will determine who the champions are.
This year, we are proud to announce the 2018 NM State Fair Karaoke Showcase and Competition. We will be seeking the top 96 adult and top 12 minors to showcase at the NM State Fair Main Pavilion September 6-16. All singers must qualify at a participating venue only; there will not be any qualifying at the NM State Fair itself.
Every venue shall have the same services all provided by CMO, such as judges, photographers, video clippers, assistant, etc. Participating venues of 2016 shall have first right of refusal, then 2015, then 2014, then open to all other venues.
We are seeking:
ONE Venue to host the IN HOUSE COMPETITION. This is the first competition of the season. This venue shall host five qualifying nights, allowing up to twelve singers each night and four shall be chosen each night to return to the qualification night of twenty singers. The judges shall choose ten to advance to the NMSF. This venue shall have KJ representation at the NMSF.
ONE Venue to host the minors auditions, or TWO Venues that each host one night. This venue will host 2 qualifying nights, allowing up to eighteen minors to audition each night. Of those eighteen, six shall be chosen each night to advance to the NMSF. On Sunday, September 16th, there shall be a minors only Grand Finale, where each of the twelve qualified minors shall sing one song. The judges shall determine the top three. Then each of the three shall go on stage and sing two songs in a row. After the judges decide, we shall crown the minor champion, as well as second and third place runner ups. There shall cash prizes as well trophies and certificates. Also on this day we shall award the top KJ, the top Venue, and other awards such as top Male, top Female, etc. This venue shall have NMSF representation at the NMSF.
NINE Venues shall host a one night only qualifying audition. Up to twenty contestants shall be accepted. The judges shall choose nine to advance to the NMSF. These venues shall have KJ representation at the NMSF.
ONE Venue (Must be the last Audition), shall host a one night only qualifying audition. Up to fifteen contestants shall be accepted. The judges shall choose five to advance to the NMSF. These venues shall NOT have KJ representation at the NMSF.
Once a singer qualifies, he or she will choose his or her night to sing at the NMSF. There shall be up to twelve singers each night for the first eight nights. The judges shall score each singer and the scores shall be sealed until the last night of the showcase. (September 13th). The judges will then open all of the scores and the top twenty four shall return to the NMSF on Friday, September 14th for the Semi Finals. At the end of the night, the judges shall determine who the top twelve are to return to the Finals on Saturday, September 15th. Those twelve shall sing one song each. The judges shall then determine the top three. Those three shall then sing two songs in a row. The judges will then determine who the champion is, as well as the second and third place champions are.
For the venues that have experienced “Karaoke Season in Albuquerque”® you know how exciting the entire community gets and how it brings out the old and the new to come sing, have fun and practice all season long. Venues from the last year have first dibs on spots, however we can only hold those spots until February 20th, then we will release the opportunity to 2015 and 2014, and then the venues that are on the waiting list. Your payment secures your spot.
